THE USE OF ROUNDTABLE TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT FOR THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 PACE IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017

Abstract

Abstract Writing is one of difficult problems in English skills to express their idea to achieve writing form. Using roundtable technique is suitable for this case especially in teaching writing descriptive text. Then, the effect could be shown by the students’ achievement or score, they got under the standart score from the school which was 75. The research problems in this research are (1) how is the students’ writing descriptive text before they are taught roundtable technique for the tenth students at SMA Negeri 1 Pace Nganjuk in academic year 2016/2017? (2) how is the students’ writing descriptive text after they are taught roundtable technique for the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pace Nganjuk in academic year 2016/2017? (3) how is the effectiveness of roundtable technique in teaching writing descriptive text to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pace Nganjuk in academic year 2016/2017? This research used pre-experimental design in the form of one group pre-test and post-test design with the X-3 class which consisted 35 students were choosen as the subject. This research was conducted in three times meeting with the instrument in the form of pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The finding of this research results was (1) the students’ writing descriptive text was low by getting the score under the standart score from the school (75) and their difficulties were in organizing the text and the grammaatical structure. (2) the students’ writing descriptive text was high by getting the score began from the standard score from school (75) to highest score (89). (3) the roundtable technique was effective in teaching the writing descriptive text. Those result were concluded from the result score which showed that roundtable technique has the significant effect to the students’ descriptive text. The t-test showed that t is higher than t-table 18,001>2,042 at the significant of 5%. It means Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, the conclusion is any significant effect by using roundtable technique in teaching writing descriptive skill for the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Pace Nganjuk. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the roundtable is a recommended technique to teach writing descriptive text in senior high school. So the researcher are suggested to use roundtable technique to help the students express their idea and can help their friends. So, they can be confidents in the group or in front of the class.
