Abstract

ABSTRACT Pamungkas, S. Hapsari: Teacher’s Oral Feedback in Teaching English by IX Grade English Teacher of SMAN 1 Kediri 2017/2018, Skripsi, English Department, The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri, 2018. Teacher’s oral feedback is part of assessment in teaching English especially in speaking skill. Ideally, teacher needs to provide a suitable oral feedback to measure student’s performance. In reality, not all teacher applied oral feedback. The aims of this research are find out the types of teacher’s oral feedback and find out the student’s perceptions towards teacher’s oral feedback. This research was conducted by the qualitative approach using case study technique. The participants of this study were the IX grade English teacher and students of English “LintasMinat” program at SMAN 1 Kediri. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, interview and field note. Observation used to get data about types of oral feedback. Field note used to complete the data during observation. Meanwhile, interview was conducted after the observation to get data about the student’s perceptions towards oral feedback and it analyze by interactive model, those are data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion. The result shown the teacher applied oral feedback during teaching speaking those are explicit feedback, recast, clarification request, meta- linguistics and repetition and it have positive perception from the students. Only clarification request which has negative perception, it make students felt embarrassed and the other types have positive perceptions from students; those are developing knowledge, motivating to study and thought- provoking. It can be concluded that almost all types of oral feedback applied by the English teacher of SMAN 1 Kediri in teaching speaking and most of those types have positive perception from the students, the oral feedback was thought- provoking and it motivated the students to study and develop their knowledge.
