Abstract

ABSTRACT Rinto Oktaria Saktiawan:The Effect of Total Physical Response Method to The Students’ Vocabulary Ability to The Seventh Grade Students of Smpn 1 Grogol Academic Year 2014/2015. Key words: Total Physical Response method, vocabulary This research based on result of observation and researcher experiences, the English teacher ordered the students to write some new words in a note to improve the students’ vocabularies then memorize what they have already studied. But the students felt depressed with a lot of vocabularies, because they could not memorize the word easily. The Students didn’t participate teaching learning prosses well. There are 2 problems of the study, (1) How is student’s vocabulary of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Grogol Kediri before they taught TPR method? (2) How is student’s vocabulary of the seventh grade student of SMPN 1 Grogol Kediri after they taught by TPR method? The researcher uses Quantitative to the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Grogolas the subject. The research has 3 steps to collect the data: pre-test, treatment and post-test.Based on the score of pre-test and post-test, the researcher could describe the data analysis. Mean of pre-test (Mpre) is 79,790 and mean of post-test (Mpost) is 90,579. The comparation between mean of post-test with mean of pre-test are 90,579 > 79,790. The result of this research shows that t-score is 39,376 at degree of freedom 37 and t-table is 2,750 at the level of significance of 1%. It means that t-score (39,376) > t-table at the level of significance 1% (2,750). The data shows that t-score is higher than t-table in significance 1%. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. It can be seen based on the students’ post-test scores in learning vocabulary by using TPR method are higher rather than before TPR method used in teaching learning process and it also can be seen as students’ responds of the researcher’s commands, the students look enjoyable learn vocabulary using TPR method, because the students can practice directly. Finally, it can be concluded that using TPR method in teaching vocabulary to the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Grogol is quit success; it is really helpful in increasing the students’ ability and achievement in English vocabulary mastery.
